“C3D” by Sebastien Rousseau (left) seems to have been inspired by the capsule in “Venus Prime” by Jim Burns (right).
That “Venus Prime” image was the cover of “The Medusa Encounter” wasn’t it?
Yes it is! I just found out Venus Prime was a series of six novels by Paul Preuss (I thought it was a short story collection for some reason). The Medusa Encounter was the fourth book, a sequel to the Arthur C. Clarke story “A Meeting with Medusa,” and it used this Jim Burns painting as a cover.
Incidentally, I contacted Sebastien Rousseau (Pixogene), and it turns out “C3D” was in no way inspired by the capsule in this cover art. He credits N.A.S.A. spacecrafts, Pixar movies, and Nintendo games as his influences.
