Another Mermaid painting by Barclay Shaw, this one apparently a personal work.  The girl is nice, but for me it’s the sponges and coral that really make this painting marvellous.  It looks like he put a lot of work and attention into them.
Avail yourself of the great Barclay Shaw resources here and here.

There needs to be more love for Barclay Shaw.

um….sure.

At first I thought “Why can’t she swim herself? She’s a mermaid!” and then I realized that I was probably being offensive and she’s likely a disabled mermaid riding her Assistance Plesiosaur.

That’s enough dark sci-fi for a while.  Here’s “Chasing the Wind” by Don Maitz.
I scanned this from Fantasy Art Masters by Dick Jude, which has an interesting step-by-step account of its creation.  This book also provides an in-depth look at paintings by Chris Moore, Jim Burns, Alan Lee, and others.  I highly recommend it.

For no reason I’m spamming Tumblr with Barclay Shaw art today.  Here’s his original wraparound cover for the novel Mercycle by Piers Anthony.  The final version replaces the octopus tentacle in the foreground with a bicyclist.  Yes, you read that right.

A mind-boggling panel out of a comic by Andrew Chiu.  It presumably makes sense in context (though the real comic might not live up to the stories this picture conjures up in your mind).
