I can’t find any information on this image, but it has all the earmarks of a Danny Flynn painting.

This illustration by David Egge for Carl Sagan’s Cosmos shows a frigid planet in the system of M57 in Lyra.  To me, it’s the icicles that really make this painting.

The Horsehead Nebula (Index Catalogue 434), a long-time favorite of space artists, serves as the backdrop to the cover art for Ancient Shores by Jack McDevitt, painted by Jim Burns.  The nebula’s red and purple hues are echoed in the vegetation in the foreground.  I scanned this from Fantasy Art Masters by Dick Jude, in which Burns describes the painting as “an exercise in deliberately ditching self-restraint with regard to color.”

A space scene by Beth Avary, scanned from Chaos in Wonderland by Clifford Pickover.  It has no apparent relation to anything in the book.

This seems to be inspired by the Terran Trade Authority books (the lettering on the hull reads “TTA-SOL-1”), and possibly a video game controller.  If anyone knows the artist, please reblog with info.
